Welcome to the Festival of Very Short Canons! All of April I'll be posting two recs a day in the comment section of this post.
All recommended canons will take 45 minutes or less to consume—many of them much less! We have a mixture of music/music videos, short stories, fake articles, comics, and miscellaneous other things. (Music and music videos were so popular that we're going to have about one of those a day every day of April!)
Extra info:
- Have a longer canon you'd love to rec? Stop by the Canon Promo post!
- If you have a Dreamwidth account, you can subscribe to comments on this post to get email updates.
- The recommendation form asked reccers if they'd like to give any content warnings, but it was optional; recommended canons won't necessarily have comprehensive warnings.
- Please don't make top-level comments to this post, but you're welcome to discuss recc'd canons by replying to my comments! You can also join the AAT Event Discord.
April 4 - Living in a world without magic, Take on Me - A-ha (Music Video)
4 April 2025 02:26 pm (UTC)Living in a world without magic
(Reccommended by Anonymous!)
Media type: Animation
Approximate length: 0-10 minutes
This gorgeously animated music video is very vibes-heavy. A young, damaged foundling that I originally thought was an extremely androgynous young woman turns out to be a young man (but very butch woman or nonbinary person takes in fanfic would also be very welcome) stumbles into a world ruled by witches and is taken in and raised by a kind witch. Alongside this, a shady witch who was once friends with the kind witch does unsettling human experiments? The foundling grows up, the witch dies, the foundling dies and then is revived and comes into our world... I am dying to know more about what the shady witch is up to and there is great potential to write fucked up lesbian situationships here.
Take on Me - A-ha (Music Video)

Media type: Music video
Approximate length: 0-10 minutes
"Take On Me" as a song is quite intriguing lyrically, almost nonsensical. The music video itself is presented partially in the real world in a café and a comic book world, probably its most defining feature.
