Nomination Requirements:
- Only nominate mediums which you wish to create.
- It must be broad and cannot fall under any of the above mediums. If two similar mediums are nominated, they will be combined. Specific subsets of mediums should be nominated as non-binding freeforms.
- For example you may nominate "Interactive Fiction" as a broad category, and any specific styles of interactive fiction should instead be optional details nominated as freeforms or listed in the optional details box.
- Styles may not be nominated unless it is a style of visual media which can be made equivalent to a small amount, similarly to "Macaroni" or "Stick Figure". Any styles nominated for this purpose must be instantly recognizable to mods.
- You may nominate specific subcategories of Fanart, however these will be limited and should only be nominated if they provide a lower-than-1k option for bidding. These should be broader categories that aren't already covered by those above (For example "Hats" wouldn't be accepted, because "Single Accessory/Clothing Item" includes hats)
- All mediums nominated must be possible to post on their own as complete gifts.
How to Nominate:
- Please reply to this post with the following information:
If you have any questions about nominating mediums, please ask on this post!

What is it: A collage of existing images, edited so that the juxtaposition of elements creates meaning. Examples include https://archiveofourown.org/works/62315983 and https://archiveofourown.org/works/63754003
Wordcount Equivalent: 167 words per collage element

After discussing it with the other mods we'll be adding it with a per element equivalent of 150, to make the math a little easier. (The equivalent will appear in the rules tomorrow along with your explanation of the medium.)

What is it: Clips of a show edited to a song
Wordcount Equivalent: 1k words per 30 seconds finished video
Other Info: FIAB rules are at https://ficinabox.dreamwidth.org/13582.html under Video

(The equivalent will appear in the rules tomorrow along with your explanation of the medium, slight adjusted to also cover still image fandoms.)
*We put it in as the plural version for AO3 tag weirdness reasons

(Anonymous) 2025-04-27 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)What is it: A gamified narrative in which players choose one of multiple options to influence how the story goes and ends. It may or may not have visual elements.
Wordcount Equivalent: All unrepeated text is counted as the total wordcount. For works between 1k and 5k, a 500 word credit for coding work is added. For works of over 5k, a 1k credit for coding work is added. Visual elements match the individual medium's wordcount equivalents.

What is it: Text written in metric and/or rhyming verse
Wordcount Equivalent: 1k words per 1 sonnet, 3 stanzas of ballad, or 15 lines of other form.
Other Info: Wordcount equivalents sourced from Fic in a Box rules here (https://ficinabox.dreamwidth.org/13582.html)
I'm personally interested in creating for sonnets, ballad meter, or filk/song parodies; do I understand correctly that those specific styles would go under freeforms?

To make the tag work as an single medium tag, we've set the equivalent so 1k equals 12 lines for any poem (This will give most of them slightly more equivalent than FIAB). If any decimals result from the math, we will round the equivalent for that poem up to the nearest word.
Yes, the specific styles will go under freeforms!
(The equivalent will appear in the rules tomorrow along with your explanation of the medium.)

Medium Tag: Medium: Typeset of Fanfiction
What is it: Designing a layout of one (or more) pre-existing fic to make it look like a real book. An ebook or a file easy to print and bind by hand as a book or booklet.
Must include: Title page + one entire fic properly typeset in a readable format in pdf or similar able to be downloaded
Wordcount Equivalent: 300 per 1k in original fic
Plus
1k for custom front cover, 1k per 3 self-made scene dividers, 500 per half page illustration, 333 per half page manip.
Other minor miscellaneous items (table of contents, added quotes, etc, etc) 200 each.
Other Info: I recently did a typeset and felt like the FIAB values were a little low but I am willing to negotiate.

After consulting with the other mods, we're simplifying/adjusting the equivalents to be: "300 per 1k of typeset fic, 1k for illustrated front cover, 500 per half page illustration, 250 per quarter page illustration, 100 for two unique drawn scene dividers". Other not mentioned elements won't receive separate credit, as in FIAB we gave a lot of extra credit options because the nominated base count was so low and only had two tiers but here we're assuming those smaller things are rolled into the larger base credit.
Manips will only be allowed if the recipient has opted in, as we don't want any combination illustration and manip mediums unless it's very obvious from the medium tag (such as collages above). If they are opted into, the manip equivalent will be the same as the illustrated options. (If they don't know to opt in, it is allowed to ask a recip or potential recip via a mod question)
(The equivalent will appear in the rules tomorrow along with your explanation of the medium.)

I understand wanting the divide, but then I would rather have the manip baked into the medium if that's the case.

Medium Tag: Medium - Raddle Puzzle
What is it: A puzzle in which crossword-like clues guide a series of transformations that link a starting word to an ending word.
Wordcount Equivalent: I have NO idea. I've never nominated a medium like this before.
Other Info: You can find example raddles at https://raddle.quest/
no subject
We've also pre-added Murdles and Logic Puzzles since those are the previous puzzles like this that we've had and we wanted to future proof. If you'd like to request raddles in specific, please add them to the request as a freeform!

What is it: A song about a fannish topic, either with an original tune, or a re-write/parody of an existing song.
Wordcount Equivalent: 250 words per verse or chorus
Other Info: Fairly similar to fan-poetry in a lot of ways, but different enough that I think it should be counted as its own thing.

What is it: Using pre-existing images and photographs to digitally create a new composition
Wordcount Equivalent: 250 words per visual element (character, background, object, etc. included)
Other Info: Photomanip art is especially good for live-action media, creating a new composition of the canon characters or settings with new elements. Probably should require crediting the source of any images used.
no subject
We aren't doing granular equivalents for anything intended to be a single cohesive image, so we've set the manip equivalent as 1k per finished manip (similarly to fanart)!

(Anonymous) 2025-05-07 04:56 am (UTC)(link)What is it: animated graphics (of video and/or images)
Wordcount Equivalent: 100 per gif? can be decided by mods
Other Info: would be great for those that can't create full on fanvids because of not knowing much about the source media!
no subject
I set it to an equivalent of 150 per gif to keep it in line with other similar mediums.
Primer
What is it: An overview of the character(s), ship(s), and/or world(s) requested, optionally with recommendations for canon or fanwork starting places.
Wordcount Equivalent: Exact wordcount
Other Info: For helping people get into a fandom and/or understand crossover context when they're unsure of where to start!
